Compost Tumbler - Homemade

We also made a compost tumbler, for about $35 bucks instead of buying one at the store for $80-$100.  I just took a 30 gallon drum, put it on an axis, cut a door into it, and put it on a frame.  One other thing we did was take 2 segments of PVC pipe, drill lots of holes through them, and run them through the drum to help aerate and mix the soil.  It is surprising how much of our trash can be reused to make super rich soil.  We throw all sorts of veggie and fruit scraps, all our coffee grounds, and even egg shells.  It has made some awesome soil that has our garden growing really well.  I also tried to draw up some crude plans if you want to try to make one yourself.

List of Items: 30-50 gallon drum, scrap wood (we found ours on the street), PVC pipe, metal pipe, metal rod, cabinet hinges, and some latches to keep the door shut.  Its somewhat ghetto looking but it works great.
